We are proud to announce that we are part of one of the winning projects in the call for Innovative Business Groups (AEI), promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Tourism of the Government of Spain, to promote the development and improvement of the Bioenergytraces tool. This initiative is being developed in collaboration with the Energy Efficiency Cluster of Catalonia (CEEC), the Smart City Cluster (Innovative Multisectoral Business Association for Smart Cities), and Elliot Cloud

Bioenergytraces is a digital platform designed within the European project H2020 AURORAL in collaboration with Catalonia’s Cluster of Bioenergy to monitor and analyze the origin, traceability, and sustainability of biomass, targeting all stakeholders across its value chain, especially supplier companies. This solution aims to enhance business competitiveness as well as decarbonize and bridge the digital divide in the sector.

Thanks to this funding, we will initiate an industrial research line focused on automated digitalization technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) models to optimize the documentation traceability of the solid biomass supply chain. The project aims to facilitate compliance with the new requirements derived from the revision of the European Renewable Energy Directive (RED-III) and to address the new decarbonization goals set by European policies. These measures define the sustainability criteria and set thresholds for the percentage of GHG emission reductions based on the distance from which the biomass originates and the requirement for certification of its origin.

The project’s first phase will focus on research tasks to develop experimental solutions to optimize biomass management using innovative AI-based technologies.

In the second phase, we plan to explore the implementation of functionalities related to economic management, such as billing and accounting, to complete the development of an MVP (minimum viable product) ready for testing in real-world environments.

This expansion will enable efficient and comprehensive management of biomass and ensure the complete integration of the economic aspects of the process. This will result in a robust and fully functional system that meets the sector’s needs and expectations, driving its transformation toward a more sustainable future.
