The architectural firm Arias Serna-Saravia was commissioned to design and build a luxury housing development in Cartagena de Indias. Due to the surface requirements, location and other conditions, the development was designed around three towers located in an area with high and frequent gusts of wind.

AIGUASOL worked on the project in two phases. In an initial phase, we modeled the exterior of the buildings using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools to assess comfort-related issues due to the high and frequent gusts of wind and to work with the architectural firm to design solutions to mitigate those effects.

The second phase also involved CFD tools, this time to model the interior conditions of the parking structure to determine whether the air changes required to ensure health could be achieved by natural ventilation (and thus earn the corresponding LEED credits). Based on the result, we proposed and designed specific openings to ensure the required air renewal ratios.
