AIGUASOL has carried out, jointly with Valeri Consultores and Estudio PVI, the executive project and management of the centralization of all the facilities of the Montjuic castle, including a second phase (not yet executed), in which a 70% of the energy of the castle will be autogenerated with renewable sources, thanks to a trigeneration based on the gasification of biomass and a photovoltaic solar system.

Barcelona City Council has spent many years investing in converting Montjuic Castle into a space that is useful for citizens, which can be a cultural center. The City Council, BIMSA and the ICUB have made a significant amount of actions for the aforementioned objective.

The project we have presented has made the integration and centralization of all the heat, cold, water, sanitation, telecommunications and PCI of the castle generation systems, and in the near future develops an innovative self-sufficient renewable and electric generation project, based on biomass and solar energy.

The scope of work had a first phase where AIGUASOL developed the conceptual solution in order to achieve energy self-sufficiency. Later on, the executive project and the management of the energy production center of this concept were carried out.

The concept took shape in the development of an executive project for the thermal and electrical supply based on the technology of Trigeneración with Syngas (gasification of biomass), in combination with photovoltaic and wind technologies.

To perform the design and optimization of facilities AIGUASOL has used dynamic simulation tools for the thermal behavior of the buildings (TRNSYS) and the simulation of the behavior of energy generation equipment (EnergyPro).

The integration of renewable energy facilities and equipment has been treated with special care so as not to damage the heritage value and the visual aspect of the historic complex.
