At Aiguasol, as part of BATEC and in collaboration with Azimut360, Societat Orgànica, and La Ciutat Invisible, we accompany energy communities on their path toward a more sustainable, equitable, and locally rooted energy model, thanks to the support of SolarCoop (ICAEN, Government of Catalonia). One of our recent projects was the development of the strategy and feasibility plan for the La Llacuna Energy Community (Anoia).

Our work focused on equipping this project with the technical and financial tools required to ensure its long-term sustainability, while keeping people at the center. Through a holistic approach, we contributed our expertise across key municipal domains:

• Technical and financial viability analysis: We designed the community’s business model and detailed financial plan to guarantee a robust and efficient deployment.
• Renewable energy promotion: We assessed local generation potential by combining diverse technologies—such as shared photovoltaic self-consumption, the rehabilitation or repowering of a decommissioned wind turbine, and the recovery of municipal renewable resources.
• Thermal decarbonization strategy: We evaluated the viability of decarbonizing thermal generation for community members, most of whose homes rely on oil boilers. We explored collective purchasing and maintenance models for biomass boilers, leveraging the area’s abundant forest resources to optimize investment and reduce reliance on conventional fuels.
• Future planning: Looking beyond renewable generation, we collaborated on defining a roadmap that encompasses sustainable mobility services, energy efficiency initiatives, and community care projects.

The result is a collaborative energy community model that delivers net savings for end users while strengthening the municipality’s climate resilience. This project exemplifies how combining technology, cooperative principles, and a territory-focused vision can transform local resource management and accelerate a just energy transition.
