At Aiguasol, we are proud to be part of the Green Deal ARV team and of the work carried out in collaboration with IREC – Catalonia Institute for Energy Research, in preparing feasibility studies for the recovery and rehabilitation of the GESA building in Palma de Mallorca.

The study includes:

  • The energy optimization of HVAC systems.
  • The rehabilitation of the heritage façade.
  • The integration of BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaics) technology, enabling the building to produce energy and become a “positive building.”

Once the rehabilitation is completed, the former GESA building is expected to become a multicultural reference space, aimed at boosting the competitiveness and adaptability of the Balearic region in the tourism sector.

About Palma’s Demonstration District

The Spanish pilot case is the Levante Innovation District, in Palma. It is a 93-hectare mixed-use area that includes residential, tertiary, and educational buildings, both newly constructed and renovated. The actions implemented under the ARV project will include resource-efficient renovation processes and the analysis and management of energy within the district, emphasizing social, educational, and digital aspects to improve citizen participation.

The demonstration activities in Palma will be realized thanks to the fruitful collaboration among stakeholders, local citizens, and the ARV project’s local partners:

  • Palma City Council
  • IBAVI, the Public Housing Company of the Balearic Islands
  • METROVACESA, a leading residential development company in Spain
  • Aiguasol, an international energy consultancy cooperative with over 20 years of experience
  • IREC, Catalonia Institute for Energy Research

About the ARV Project

The ARV project has received €20 million in funding from the EU Green Deal call to research circular, climate-positive communities in Europe. This project will provide guidelines and a policy framework for future efficient and circular energy solutions in the construction industry, establishing six climate-positive areas across Europe as the project’s core.

The name ARV comes from Norwegian and means “heritage” or “legacy,” reflecting the emphasis on circularity, a key aspect in achieving the project’s main goal: to accelerate the renovation rate of buildings in Europe. The consortium is composed of 35 partners from 7 European countries, with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) as the coordinator. The project started in 2022 and will run until the end of 2025.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement number 101036723.

At Aiguasol, we remain committed to driving more resilient and sustainable construction, contributing to projects that promote circularity and respect for the environment. With initiatives like the Green Deal ARV, we take another step toward a more efficient and environmentally friendly energy future for generations to come.
