The Basque Government, acting through the public company Visesa and the Basque Energy Board (EVE), promoted the creation of an area of public housing intended to become the first green neighborhood in the Basque Country. Beyond the complexity of designing a neighborhood with this objective, Antondegi is located on a hill with very different climate profiles on its various faces and typologies.
AIGUASOL was hired by the architectural team to design guidelines to meet the ecodistrict objective. We started by defining the various planned building types, crossing them with the various orientations and relative positions to come up with 19 variants characteristic of the development. This was the basis for determining the guidelines to consider when designing the master plans and when dimensioning and geo-positioning the energy demands.
Based on this dimensioning, we proposed various centralized, renewable energy production options, both in terms of a cost-benefit analysis and of the locations required for the facilities.
