At Aiguasol, we are participating in the CERCOOP BAT project, an innovative initiative aimed at transforming the management and use of renewable energy within the agri-food cooperative sector. The project, funded by the Department of Business and Labour of the Government of Catalonia and promoted by the Fruits de Ponent cooperative in Alcarràs, seeks to consolidate a shared self-consumption model, integrating energy storage systems and advanced digital tools to optimize community energy management.
The project is being developed in collaboration with SEBA Association, BATEC, and the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia (FCAC), which provide technical, strategic, and sectoral support, ensuring a robust and comprehensive approach to the development of the Rural Energy Community (REC).
Our role in the project
At Aiguasol, we lead the development of the energy optimization software, designed to efficiently manage battery systems within the REC. This tool will enable:
- Maximizing the self-consumption of existing photovoltaic installations.
- Adapting battery operation to real consumption patterns and evolving energy prices.
- Ensuring that each member receives their allocated energy, in accordance with the quotas established within the community.
Our challenge is to integrate and optimize storage systems under two complementary logics: maximizing economic savings by shifting photovoltaic generation to periods of higher electricity costs, and optimizing self-consumption within a shared model that guarantees savings, fairness, and efficiency for all community members.
Objectives and expected impact
The project, running from June 2025 to May 2027, pursues several key objectives:
- Implement energy storage systems that maximize the use of locally generated renewable energy and stabilize supply.
- Develop advanced software to optimize consumption patterns and the management of shared self-consumption schemes.
- Strengthen the active participation of community members, promoting cooperative values and shared energy responsibility.
- Consolidate a replicable rural energy community model that can be implemented in other agri-food cooperatives and territories.
Through this solution, we expect to reduce energy costs, improve consumption efficiency, and establish a community-based energy management model that can serve as a benchmark for other cooperatives.
Towards energy sovereignty
With CERCOOP BAT, we support the development of efficient, resilient, and participatory rural energy communities, where each member can fully benefit from the energy generated and stored. The combination of renewable generation, intelligent storage, and advanced digital management ensures not only optimized energy use but also transparency and shared responsibility within the community.
Through our software, we are creating a replicable and scalable energy management model that will enable other agri-food cooperatives to adopt sustainable and efficient solutions. Every technological decision and system functionality has been designed to maximize self-consumption, reduce costs, and reinforce cooperative culture, contributing to a more energy-sovereign and sustainable future.
At Aiguasol, we reaffirm our commitment and expertise in sustainability and innovation, working to transform the way cooperatives manage energy and positioning them as leaders in sustainability, efficiency, and energy autonomy.
