Aiguasol has conducted a study on Masnou’s photovoltaic potential, commissioned by the City Council to promote the creation of energy communities in the municipality. This work includes a Master Plan that prioritizes the photovoltaic installations to be implemented, ensuring efficient and sustainable planning.
The study analyzes the available surface for installing solar panels in Masnou, distinguishing between flat and sloped roofs. It also presents different options for the tilt of the modules on flat roofs, as this factor directly influences energy generation by allowing more modules to be installed. The analysis has identified the optimal conditions, such as orientation, inclination, and the absence of shadows, and has selected 15 public space rooftops in the municipality, including schools, sports centers, industrial buildings, the cemetery, and other municipal buildings.
Amadeu Quintana, Fifth Deputy Mayor and Delegate Councilor for Solidarity, Civil Rights, Ecological Transition, and Sustainable Development of Masnou, highlights:
“The roof study carried out by Aiguasol was key to promoting photovoltaic installations in municipal buildings. This work has provided us with a clear and structured vision, allowing us to establish a roadmap. Thanks to this study, we have identified the most suitable rooftops from an energy perspective, taking into account both energy production and the specific consumption of each building.”
This project brings significant social, economic, and environmental benefits.
Socially, part of the energy generated by these installations will be allocated to people in situations of energy vulnerability, helping to alleviate energy poverty in the municipality. Economically, the City Council will achieve substantial savings, as municipal buildings will directly consume part of the energy generated. Environmentally, renewable energy generation will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promoting a more sustainable and resilient energy model in the face of climate change.
The combination of accessibility, sustainability, and social impact makes Energy Communities key in advancing toward an effective and inclusive energy transition.
Councilor Quintana emphasizes:
“Working with Aiguasol has allowed us to further understand the strategic value of these installations, not only from an energy and environmental perspective but also as a tool to promote self-sufficiency and collective awareness. We have learned that promoting the public use of photovoltaic panels not only helps reduce costs and emissions but also serves to raise public awareness about the importance of the energy transition. This project is a clear example that renewable energy can be accessible, effective, and a transformative force at the service of the community.”
So far, photovoltaic installations have been completed in several municipal buildings, including the Edifici Centre, the Municipal Sports Complex, the Casa de la Vila, Ca n’Humet, Ocata School, Ferrer i Guàrdia School, and the cemetery reservoir.
In the case of the Sports Complex, the installation was carried out on the roof of the new sports hall. A new installation is planned for the roof of the swimming pool and its extension once the existing roof, which is in poor condition, is replaced.
Thanks to funding obtained through the Renewables 2030 program, the remaining installations will be progressively executed, positioning Masnou as a benchmark in public and sustainable energy models.
